The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) has officially handed over the site of the Shuaibah Phase 6 Project to Rawafid Industrial Company, the project’s contractor, marking the commencement of construction works for one of the Kingdom’s major strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing water security and ensuring sustainable supply across Makkah and the Holy Sites.
The project is part of the SWA’s broader efforts to increase the efficiency of desalinated water production systems and expand supply reliability in vital regions, in line with growing demand during Hajj and Umrah seasons as well as population and economic growth. The facility will employ state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly desalination technologies with a production capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and promoting sustainable water solutions.
The handover ceremony included a review of the project’s scope, implementation plan, and construction timeline, with an emphasis on adhering to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental protection throughout all project stages.
Eng. Sharikh Al Sharikh, Vice President for Technical Affairs and Projects, stated that the handover marks the official start of construction for one of the Kingdom’s most vital projects, aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 goals to ensure water sustainability. He also highlighted that SWA continues to develop innovative projects that enhance supply reliability and provide sustainable water services that meet world-class standards.
Shuaibah Phase 6 Desalination System forms part of SWA’s series of development projects along the Kingdom’s western coast, designed to integrate desalination systems, boost operational efficiency, and ensure sustainable water supply, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s global leadership in the water sector.
