The Saudi Water Authority, in cooperation with ACWA Power and with the participation of Saudi Water Partnership Company and Water Transmission Company, as well as the Development Research Center of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China (DRC), organized a desalination cooperation roundtable in Beijing to strengthen international partnerships and support Saudi investment opportunities globally, particularly in the Chinese market.
The event aimed to enhance cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and China in seawater desalination, water transmission, water legislation and policies, technological innovation and environmental sustainability, while also reviewing best practices in financing and operating desalination projects.
The roundtable saw broad participation from government entities and private-sector representatives from both the Saudi and Chinese sides. Specialized sessions discussed legislative and regulatory frameworks for the water sector, public-private partnership (PPP) models, technological innovation and its applications, green investment opportunities and reducing the carbon footprint, and prospects for developing China’s desalination industry and international cooperation.
During the event, the Kingdom’s water ecosystem also reviewed the strategic transformation of the water sector and its role in enabling investments, strengthening water sustainability, and transferring knowledge, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, reflecting the Kingdom’s advanced standing as one of the world’s leaders in desalination.
