The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) has expressed its appreciation for the Cabinet’s decision to assign it the responsibility for operating, maintaining, and rehabilitating dam and groundwater purification plants with a daily production capacity of less than 5,000 cubic meters. SWA emphasized that this assignment reflects great confidence following its proven success in managing higher-capacity plants over the past two years, maximizing the utilization of national engineering and technical expertise. These efforts have led to improved performance, higher production capacities, reduced consumption of liquid fuel, and enhanced reliability across the entire water supply chain. SWA's operational arm has achieved substantial progress in optimizing existing assets, increasing daily water production by approximately 1.3 million cubic meters, and expanding service coverage to more than 5.2 million beneficiaries. Additionally, operational costs have been reduced by up to 41%, resulting in annual savings exceeding 255 million Saudi riyals and the elimination of over 53 million liters of diesel fuel consumption each year. As part of its focus on efficiency and operational integration, SWA has activated advanced management and monitoring centers equipped with secure digital control systems across groundwater and surface water production stations nationwide. It has also launched initiatives aimed at enhancing membrane sustainability and reducing operational losses—steps that contribute to improved environmental and economic performance while aligning with the sustainability objectives of the national water sector. SWA reaffirmed its firm commitment to excellence in fulfilling its operational mandates and continuing its strategic role in developing the regulatory framework for the water sector. Guided by its vision to be a global model for sustainable water management and innovation enablement, SWA aims to achieve this through regulatory oversight, water security and sustainability, consumer protection, compliance, capacity building, economic development enablement, digital transformation, and technological innovation. These efforts are fully aligned with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, reinforcing the Kingdom’s global leadership in efficient, sustainable, and reliable water management. The United Nations Committee on Water’s recognition of the Kingdom as a global model for water sustainability and SDG achievement, along with the World Bank’s acknowledgment of Saudi Arabia’s pioneering role in advancing desalination technologies and improving energy efficiency, stands as testimony to the Kingdom’s excellence and global contributions in the water sector.
