H.E. Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim, President of the Saudi Water Authority (SWA), oversaw the national exercise “Miyah-1”, which was conducted with the participation of more than 20 government and military entities, along with health and service sectors and private-sector companies. The exercise was carried out under the scenario titled “Major Water Service Outage in the Makkah Region and Al-Baha Region”.
The exercise simulated a hypothetical incident involving a fire in one of the electrical rooms within the Shuaibah production system, resulting in the facility being taken out of service, along with the disruption of several associated water transmission systems and a major interruption in water services.
The exercise forms part of an ongoing program implemented by the national water system aimed at building proactive preparedness and strengthening the reliability of water supply and services for beneficiaries.
“Miyah-1” aims to enhance the reliability of water supplies by elevating readiness and response levels, testing emergency and business continuity plans across the water system and participating entities, assessing communication and coordination mechanisms, and strengthening inter-agency collaboration.
The results of the exercise demonstrated a high level of preparedness and cross-sector integration, as well as the national water system’s capability to effectively manage emergencies and crisis situations.
