The President of the Saudi Water Authority (SWA), Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Abdulkarim, conducted a field tour in Makkah and the holy sites to assess the readiness of the water system. The tour covered production plants, transmission networks and distribution networks, as well as the completion of operational preparations for the Ramadan season, in a way that ensures service reliability amid the expected increase in demand rates during the holy month.

During the tour, he reviewed the progress of operations in production, transmission, storage and distribution projects, operational performance indicators, seasonal demand management plans, and mechanisms to enhance technical readiness and coordination among the system’s components. These efforts aim to ensure the sustainability of supply and the quality of water provided to visitors to Masjid Al-Haram (Grand Mosque) in accordance with the highest approved standards.

The tour included the production and transmission system in Al Shuaibah, Al Shuhada reservoir supplying the Grand Mosque, the central control room, distribution network control centers operated by the National Water Company, and real-time monitoring systems for pumping and distribution rates. It also covered the Al Shuaibah water transmission system and its associated pumping stations, as well as the Miqat Wadi Mahram tunnel, which represents one of the strategic routes supporting water supplies to the holy sites during peak seasons.

During the tour, he met with the Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Abdulfattah Mashat, to review the latest preparations and strengthen the integration of efforts between SWA and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in a way that supports operational efficiency during the Ramadan season.

At the conclusion of the tour, he affirmed that preparations are being managed through a proactive approach based on institutional integration, operational discipline, and the mobilization of all technical and human capabilities, in implementation of the directives of the wise leadership to provide the best services to the pilgrims and enhance the reliability of the water system during peak seasons.
