The President of the Saudi Water Authority (SWA), His Excellency Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Abdulkarim, received a delegation from the Ministry of Energy of the Syrian Arab Republic, headed by Assistant Minister of Energy for Water Resources Eng. Osama Abu Zeid, to review the Kingdom’s globally leading experience in the water sector and its integrated system covering production, transmission, storage and capacity building.

The two sides discussed the regulatory and operational frameworks adopted in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which have contributed to improving sector efficiency and enhancing sustainability, in addition to development and innovation targets across the entire water supply chain. These efforts support water security and strengthen supply reliability in line with global best practices.

His Excellency also sponsored the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Syrian Ministry of Energy and Saudi Amiantit Company, aimed at supporting the Syrian government’s plans to develop and modernize water and wastewater infrastructure, and to enhance network efficiency and sustainability.

The delegation commended the operational and regulatory efforts implemented by SWA, praising what it observed during field visits that included the Shuaibah production plant (Phases III and V), Shuaibah transmission systems, as well as a visit to the Water Academy and a number of private sector companies to review advanced technologies and operational solutions applied across various components of the system.

The visit is part of the framework of strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise in water resources management and reviewing best practices in the water sector. It is expected to contribute to supporting efforts to develop the water sector in the Syrian Arab Republic and achieve sustainability at both regional and international levels.
