Under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim, President of the Saudi Water Authority, an agreement was signed between the Saudi Water Authority and the Saudi Irrigation Organization. The agreement aims to regulate roles and responsibilities, strengthen institutional integration, and unify efforts across the water sector, contributing to enhanced operational efficiency and the sustainable use of water resources.

Under the Authority’s regulatory framework, the Saudi Water Authority will oversee treated wastewater reuse activities, including the issuance of licenses and permits, the development of regulatory frameworks, determining financial compensation mechanisms, as well as monitoring and enforcement activities in accordance with applicable water sector regulations. Responsibilities also include planning infrastructure requirements and projects related to treated wastewater reuse.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Irrigation Organization will lead the implementation and operation of treated wastewater reuse projects, in addition to managing transportation, distribution, and sales operations for various urban, industrial, and agricultural uses, alongside preparing sector-supporting reports and statistics.

The agreement is expected to enhance the efficiency of the water ecosystem, support the objectives of the National Water Strategy, and reinforce the principles of sustainability and reliability in service delivery.
