His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, received H.E. Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim, President of the Saudi Water Authority. During the meeting, His Royal Highness was briefed on the Authority’s water sector development targets in the region, the Authority’s efforts in regulating and overseeing the water sector, ensuring water security, enhancing service efficiency, supporting the sustainable management of water resources, protecting the interests of beneficiaries, and aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
H.E. the President of the Authority reviewed the Authority’s key efforts in developing the regulatory frameworks for non-networked water services, monitoring the performance of service providers, carrying out regulatory and inspection activities, increasing compliance in water and wastewater services in the region, and improving the quality of services provided to beneficiaries, thereby enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the water system.
His Excellency also reviewed water sector infrastructure development projects in the region and advanced water treatment solutions that have contributed to improving water services for beneficiaries, in addition to partnership models with the private sector in decentralized treatment projects, and the Authority’s efforts to empower the non-profit sector, represented by Sekaya Foundation, to support water services in the centers and villages of Makkah Region.
His Excellency also reviewed the efforts of operating companies in the water sector, the role of innovation in supporting the development of the water system, and the latest water innovation initiatives, which include 23 innovation incubators and 6 test platforms, thereby fostering a research and development ecosystem and supporting innovative solutions. He also reviewed opportunities to expand integration and partnerships among the various components of the sector and emphasized the role of integration among government entities under the leadership of the Emirate of Makkah Region.
