The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) confirmed that promptly detecting and repairing hidden leaks helps reduce water waste, improve water-use efficiency, and conserve water resources. Beneficiaries may also take advantage of the regulatory mechanism for adjusting increases in water bills resulting from such leaks, provided that the approved requirements are met, in accordance with the Water and Wastewater Services Guide approved by the Authority.

SWA explained that eligibility under this mechanism requires the leak to be repaired, supporting evidence of the repair to be retained, and a reduction in consumption following the repair. The request must also be submitted through the approved channels, and the beneficiary must not have any violations related to water use recorded during the previous year. Requests are subject to review and verification of compliance with the applicable requirements, after which the eligible adjustment is determined in accordance with the approved regulatory procedures.

The Authority noted that this regulatory mechanism encourages the prompt detection and repair of hidden leaks, helping reduce water loss, improve water-use efficiency, and strike a balance between conserving water resources and protecting beneficiaries’ rights. This, in turn, enhances the sustainability of water services and promotes responsible water use.

SWA called on all beneficiaries to regularly monitor their water consumption, investigate the causes of any unusual increase in consumption or billing, promptly repair any leaks once detected, and use the approved channels to submit requests when the applicable requirements are met. These measures contribute to conserving water, reducing waste, and improving water-use efficiency.
