The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) stressed the importance of updating account information with the service provider when property ownership is transferred or changed, describing it as a regulatory measure aimed at protecting rights and ensuring that the service is registered under the name of its actual owner. This helps avoid any subsequent consequences that may result from data mismatches.

SWA explained that updating customer data provides direct benefits to beneficiaries, including ensuring the proper delivery of bills and notifications, avoiding the accumulation of financial dues or the assumption of unjustified obligations, and enabling beneficiaries to monitor consumption limits through timely messages and alerts. These measures contribute to maintaining service stability and quality.

SWA noted that updating meter data immediately after ownership transfer protects all parties. It allows the seller to terminate their association with the account early without future obligations, while ensuring that the new owner begins receiving the service in a regular manner from the date of actual use, without the need for subsequent procedures to prove non-use or correct data.

SWA also said that relocating or changing the meter within the property is carried out in accordance with approved regulations, including obtaining the service provider’s approval and preparing the site. The beneficiary bears the relocation cost upon request and is responsible for the meter’s safety, while the service provider bears the cost if the malfunction is beyond the beneficiary’s control.

SWA indicated that failure to update data may lead to delays or disruptions in certain service procedures, requiring additional time and effort to resolve. It affirmed that its regulatory role focuses on supporting beneficiaries by obligating service providers to apply approved procedures, ensuring the proper handling of cost-bearing arrangements, and monitoring service quality.

SWA called on beneficiaries to promptly update their account information through the service provider’s approved channels as part of the “Ma’ak Bihaqak” campaign, which aims to raise awareness of beneficiaries’ rights and responsibilities and empower them with procedures that protect their interests and ensure the continuity of services.
