The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) has stepped up its monitoring and awareness campaigns to detect water leaks, describing them as a major source of resource waste and a form of visual blight. SWA also warned that leaks can lead to water pooling and the spread of insects, posing potential risks to public health.

SWA emphasized the importance of beneficiaries taking the initiative to report any leaks, noting that early reporting helps curb water losses, speeds up remediation by the service provider, prevents the escalation of environmental and health damage, protects roads and public facilities from deterioration, and reduces operational costs associated with delayed action.

Field inspection teams, SWA said, continue to monitor violations in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing and the committee supporting visual pollution treatment initiatives, “More Beautiful Cities”.

Among the most prominent violations are leaving leaks unrepaired, excessive use of water to wash sidewalks and vehicles, and discharging water into streets. SWA confirmed that legal measures are being taken against violators in accordance with the Water Law.

SWA added that water conservation is a shared national responsibility that helps safeguard resources and infrastructure while improving quality of life in cities, calling on the public to promptly report violations through its official website or the “Balady” application.
