The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) said it recently approved rules that allow real estate developers to implement connection links for water and wastewater networks within property development stages. This helps limit repeated excavations for each individual connection, enhances street safety, reduces duplication of work, and lowers costs for beneficiaries.

The cost of connecting water services for beneficiaries amounts to SAR 1,000 per meter if the real estate developer carries out the connection link in advance within the property boundary during development stages, in early coordination with the service provider.

The regulation comes as part of the approval of rules governing the provision of water and wastewater services to approved plans and development projects. It contributes to reducing excavations within residential neighborhoods, improving the urban landscape, and lowering operational costs.

The regulation is expected to help maximize returns on infrastructure investments by reducing repeated operational interventions, improving spending efficiency, extending the operational lifespan of assets, and enhancing quality of life.

This step falls within a development path that SWA has been pursuing since the establishment of its operations in May 2024 to build integrated regulatory frameworks that contribute to improving the efficiency of the water sector and support the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
