The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) has shut down a number of water filling stations in Riyadh after detecting violations related to the operation of services without obtaining the necessary official licenses, which constitutes a clear breach under the Water Law.

The Authority confirmed that the violators will be subject to the penalties stipulated by the law, as part of its ongoing regulatory enforcement efforts aimed at promoting compliance and raising the level of commitment within the water sector.

The Saudi Water Authority urged all entities engaged in activities under its jurisdiction to apply for the required licenses through its official website. This includes adhering to the licensing requirements for off-grid water services and reviewing the prerequisites, such as the license for producing desalinated or treated water.

This action aligns with the Authority’s mandate to regulate the water sector and strengthen oversight and inspection efforts. It contributes to improving service efficiency and ensuring safe access in accordance with approved standards. It also reflects the Authority’s continuing role in regulating off-grid water services, which include the distribution of water via tankers instead of a piped network, and cover the production of desalinated or treated water.

Licenses for these services can be obtained through the electronic services section on the Authority’s website, upon meeting all specified requirements for each service.
