His Excellency Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkareem, President of the Saudi Water Authority (SWA), extended his congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the successful completion of the Hajj season for the year 1446 AH.
H.E. Eng. Al-Abdulkareem praised the efforts of all national sectors involved in serving the pilgrims, whose integrated performance played a key role in ensuring the season’s success.
H.E. affirmed that the seamless execution of the SWA’s operational plan was the result of early preparations and close cooperation across the water sector, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, with the direct guidance and ongoing supervision of Minister Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen AlFadley. Eng. Al-Abdulkareem noted that this reflects the sector’s robust infrastructure and the high capability of national professionals to perform efficiently under diverse operational conditions.
H.E. further noted that the water sector entered the Hajj season in full readiness to meet the rising demand for water supply. The daily production and transmission capacity exceeded 1.2 million cubic meters, with primary transmission networks spanning over 1,316 kilometers. The total amount of water pumped throughout the season surpassed 10 million cubic meters, distributed through a fully integrated water service network across Makkah and the holy sites, with pipelines exceeding 5,000 kilometers in length.
The SWA President commended the high efficiency and reliability of water supply achieved during the Hajj season, crediting the success to the integrated efforts of all entities under the water sector umbrella. H.E. extended his appreciation to the sector’s operating arms, including the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), National Water Company (NWC), Water Transmission and Technologies Company (WTTCO), Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), the Saudi Irrigation Organization, the National Water Efficiency and Conservation Center, and partners from both the private and nonprofit sectors. H.E. emphasized that this collaboration was pivotal in ensuring the sustainability and high performance of water supply operations.
In support of sustainable resource management, the sector also operated its environmental treatment systems at a daily capacity of 750,000 cubic meters, in line with the highest environmental and health safety standards.
“The water sector gave special attention to monitoring water quality and ensuring its safety,” said H.E. Eng. Al-Abdulkareem. “Over 4,000 lab tests were conducted daily throughout the season using state-of-the-art microbiological and chemical analysis technologies, mobile laboratories, and innovative solutions, in cooperation with the Water Technologies Innovation Institute and Research Advancements.”
H.E. also noted that as part of its field oversight efforts, SWA implemented a comprehensive inspection plan for water networks, conducting more than 6,200 monitoring tours throughout the season. These were carried out by 12 field teams operating around the clock across 14 water service networks covering Makkah and the holy sites, totaling more than 9,000 hours of active field monitoring. The teams also assessed the readiness of more than 3,491 field facilities and followed up on their status throughout the season.
On the operational side, over 2,000 engineers and technicians participated in running and managing the sector during the Hajj season, logging over 200,000 working hours as part of the operation and maintenance teams, underscoring the sector’s high operational readiness.
H.E. Eng. Al-Abdulkareem concluded by affirming that these outcomes reflect the Authority’s ongoing commitment to enhancing water services and improving operational efficiency across all seasons, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. H.E. emphasized that the SWA remains dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality water services worthy of the pilgrims and their spiritual journey.
