SWA Concludes A Strategic Collaboration and Innovation Tour To the Netherlands

The Saudi Water Authority (SWA), led by H.E. Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Abdulkarim, concluded its tour in the Netherlands from June 5 to 6, 2024, to explore collaboration opportunities in water sector research, and discuss the global water transformation enabling sustainable growth.


SWA met with the Union of Water Boards to discover the Dutch experience in water sector management and discuss exchanging expertise and experiences in this field. SWA also engaged with the Deltaris Institute, known for hydraulic designs and data modeling in water management, to explore optimal strategic methods to enhance the sector's infrastructure.


Discussions included cooperation in research and development and exchanging expertise in innovative water management technologies with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).


The tour included a visit to the Port of Rotterdam, Europe's largest green energy hub, where SWA explored opportunities to utilize green hydrogen solutions in the Kingdom's water sector and discussed possibilities for collaboration with DOT Company in renewable energy.


H.E. The President and SWA's personnel were briefed on the latest logistics technologies in the water and energy industries, as well as programs supporting entrepreneurship and innovation.


During a special meeting in the Netherlands, H.E. The President also discussed cooperation prospects in AI applications for Saudi Arabia's water sector with executive directors, innovators, and researchers.


The meeting covered topics such as leveraging innovations for digital water sector management, leading technologies for energy-efficient water supply chains, financial management, and innovative water service solutions to enhance the efficiency of the Kingdom's water system.


The visit also included tours and discussions with the Wetsus Center, specialized in environmental sustainability for water management; EWT, a Dutch wind energy technology developer and provider; the University of Twente and its research institute MESA+, specialized in water studies and research; and NX Filtration, known for purifying fresh water membranes and technology.
