The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) and the National Water Company (NWC) signed an agreement today (Monday) for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of 16 water treatment plants to purify groundwater extracted from wells in several governorates, villages, and remote areas within the central sector.
The agreement was signed in the presence of His Excellency Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim, President of the Saudi Water Authority, and His Excellency Dr. Fouad bin Ahmed Al Sheikh Mubarak, CEO of the National Water Company. Representing SWA, Eng. Tariq bin Ghassan Al-Ghafari, Vice President for Emerging Water Research and Technologies, signed the agreement, while NWC was represented by Eng. Mansour bin Mohammed Abu Thnin, Executive Vice President of Projects.
The agreement aims to enhance water security, provide new drinking water sources, and develop environmentally friendly groundwater desalination technologies with high efficiency. It also seeks to meet the growing water demand in the central sector by delivering decentralized production capacities exceeding 18,000 cubic meters per day. Additionally, it will leverage the engineering and technical expertise of SWA's teams and integrate cutting-edge technologies and innovations in collaboration with global equipment manufacturers to ensure optimal operational efficiency and sustainability.
This agreement builds on SWA's extensive expertise in designing and constructing water treatment plants and is part of its efforts to develop sustainable water resource management solutions. The newly designed plants will have varying production capacities, providing high-quality drinking water to over 80,000 beneficiaries in the region.
The project also includes the establishment of integrated water treatment and distribution facilities to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and quality. This initiative represents a significant step toward improving the reliability of water supply in regions facing resource challenges, enhancing essential services, and supporting the broader water sector's efforts to develop and sustain critical water infrastructure.
SWA reaffirms its commitment to providing innovative solutions that address water challenges while adhering to global best practices. The project aligns with SWA's strategic objectives of achieving integrated water resource management, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the sector, and enhancing the efficiency of Saudi Arabia's water infrastructure.
