The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) has been awarded the ISO 56002 certification for Innovation Management Systems, reaffirming its commitment to implementing the highest global standards in fostering a sustainable innovation ecosystem that enhances operational efficiency and service quality within the water sector.

This certification marks a significant milestone in SWA’s strategic efforts to position innovation as a key enabler of water sector sustainability. Over the past years, the authority has successfully developed an innovation portfolio with more than 60 patents, focusing on sustainable water resource management, operational efficiency enhancement, and digital transformation through AI-driven solutions.

This certification is a testament to SWA’s commitment to innovation as a strategic pillar for ensuring the sustainability of the water sector. Over the past years, the authority has successfully built an innovation portfolio exceeding 60 patents, spearheading groundbreaking projects that contribute to water resource sustainability, operational efficiency, and national water security strategies, leveraging digital transformation and AI-driven solutions.

Among SWA’s key innovations is “ZETA Technology”, developed by the Saudi Water Innovation Center, SWA’s innovation arm. This first-of-its-kind global technology utilizes nanofibers to separate salts from water, marking a significant advancement in desalination. Another breakthrough innovation is an AI-powered vibration analysis system, developed by the Water Technologies Innovation Institue and Research Advancement (WTIIRA), SWA’s research arm. This technology enables predictive maintenance for reverse osmosis (RO) and multi-stage flash (MSF) desalination systems, allowing for faster fault detection, reduced operational risks, and lower maintenance costs, ultimately enhancing the reliability and sustainability of water systems.

SWA continues to advance innovation enablers by supporting research and development, leveraging big data analytics and AI, and enhancing technical infrastructure readiness to keep pace with rapid developments in water resource management. Additionally, the authority is committed to empowering national talent and driving digital transformation to optimize sector performance and operational efficiency.

The ISO certification underscores SWA’s institutional reliability and global leadership in pioneering advanced water solutions, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the water sector through cutting-edge technologies and adherence to the highest international standards.
