The International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) has announced that Saudi Arabia will host the 2026 IDRA World Congress, following the current session held in Abu Dhabi under the theme “Addressing Water Scarcity.” The event brings together experts and specialists from around the globe, reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s leadership as a key global player in the water sector and a strong advocate for sustainability and water security initiatives.

This selection highlights the Kingdom’s prominent role in addressing water challenges as the world’s largest producer of desalinated water. Saudi Arabia’s extensive record of technological innovations and sustainable initiatives has propelled significant progress in enhancing water security through advanced desalination technologies and innovative reuse practices. The decision aligns with the Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes sustainable development and the advancement of strategic sectors, positioning Saudi Arabia as a global hub for innovation in desalination technologies and renewable energy.

The upcoming congress will provide an international platform to address growing water challenges, including water scarcity and the impacts of climate change. Experts and specialists from over 60 countries will gather to showcase the latest technological innovations and sustainable solutions in the water sector. The event will also foster international collaboration and build strategic partnerships aimed at developing innovative, practical solutions to global water issues.

The global trust in Saudi Arabia’s selection to host the next congress underscores its ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and protect natural resources. These efforts include the establishment of a global water organization headquartered in Riyadh to unify international efforts in addressing water challenges comprehensively. The announcement also coincides with Saudi Arabia’s hosting of COP16, further demonstrating the Kingdom’s commitment to adopting innovative solutions to environmental and climate issues. This commitment aligns with its approach to achieving harmony between water sustainability and environmental protection.

Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the 2026 IDRA World Congress marks another strategic step in solidifying its pivotal role in shaping a sustainable water future. It reinforces the Kingdom’s position as a global leader in water innovation, blending technological advancement with strategic vision, and opening the door for global collaboration in addressing increasing water challenges.
