H.E. MEWA Minister Hails Cabinet Approval to Transform SWCC into the Saudi Water Authority

Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadli, the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, applauded the commitment and support of the wise leadership towards developing the water sector in the Kingdom. He explained that the approval of the Cabinet to transform the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) into the Saudi Water Authority (SWA) contributes to enhancing water security and developing the water system to achieve the targets of the National Water Strategy and the aspirations of Saudi Vision 2030.


Al-Fadli pointed out, in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), that under the support and empowerment of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the establishment of SWA represents a pivotal step leading to assuming strategic roles to enhance water management. This includes setting plans, policies, and regulations related to it, contributing to affirming the Kingdom's leading position globally in water security fields.


He further clarified that the upcoming phase will witness the restructuring of the water system in the Kingdom, enhancing work development and productivity. The authority will work on formulating and developing policies, plans, programs, and initiatives related to the water sector, in addition to setting necessary regulations and requirements for issuing licenses related to its areas of specialization.


Al-Fadli extended his appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to H. R. H Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, Prime Minister, for their attention and care for the water sector in the Kingdom. He also appreciated their efforts in ensuring water security for citizens, residents, and future generations.
